Internship Opportunities
Internships are available in the History Archives & Library. Student interns are able to pursue of variety of interests during their internship that can enhance their career goals. Experience in a working library, archives and museum enables the Intern to learn about museum accessioning; artifact handling, preservation and storage; exhibition preparation and installation; historic research and writing; graphics and design; Archives & Library marketing; and museum education. Internship duties include, but are not limited to:
  • processing and cataloguing collections
  • assisting in researching and handling of manuscripts and objects
  • participation in Collections Oversight Committee meetings which focus on donation accessioning
  • assisting in the research, development and installation of history exhibitions at both the Staten Island Institute of Arts & Sciences and at selected offsite locations
  • developing public information materials to promote the History Archives & Library
  • assisting the Institute's Curator, Archivist and Librarian with day to day duties

Please note that Intern activities can be tailored to meet the student's career choice or personal interests.


Intern Pre-requisites:
Interns should be enrolled in an accredited museum studies, history, environmental, library, art or social science related program.


Internship Benefits:

An internship in the History Archives & Library of the Staten Island Museum allows students to gain hands on experience in working with historical collections and archival materials. First hand knowledge on museum, library and archival procedure is another important aspect of interning in the History Archives & Library. Participants also obtain valuable work experience for future job placement, while discovering the history of Staten Island and its people.
